Mill Grinding Ball

Grinding balls are the largest consumable in a ball or SAG mill, and the right choice depends on three things: the impact energy in your mill, the abrasiveness of the ore and the cost per tonne of media. This section covers both families we manufacture, so you can compare them on the same page.

Forged grinding balls are hot-forged from 45#, 60Mn, 65Mn, 70Cr2, B2 or B3 round bar and through-hardened to HRC 55-65. They suit high-impact primary grinding in SAG and ball mills. Cast grinding balls are poured in high chrome (Cr 18-26%), medium chrome (Cr 8-12%) or low chrome (Cr 1-3%) alloy and are the usual choice for cement, coal and fine dry grinding where abrasion dominates.

Both are supplied from 20 mm to 150 mm, in bulk bags, steel drums or on pallets, with hardness, impact value and breakage rate recorded per heat. If you are not sure which grade fits your mill, send the ore type, mill size and current consumption in g/t and we will recommend a make-up charge.
