Mill Grinding Balls, Grinding Cylpebs and Grinding Rods

Grinding Media for Power Plants
Thermal power plants grind coal to a fineness that balances combustion efficiency against mill power. Coal is soft compared with ore, but it is abrasive and the mill runs continuously, so media consumption adds up over a year.
Recommended media
| Mill type | Media | Size | Material |
| Ball tube mill | High chrome cast balls | 30-60 mm | Cr18-26, HRC 58-65 |
| Ball tube mill | Cylpebs | 20×30-40×50 mm | High chrome or Cr-Mo |
| Roller mill (spares) | Grinding rolls / table liners | – | High chrome or composite |
What matters in coal grinding
- Consistent hardness, so mill power and fineness stay stable between deliveries
- Low breakage – broken media blocks the outlet and disturbs the mill
- Wear debris that does not contaminate the coal feed
- Steady supply, because a mill stop for media is a unit derate
Typical consumption is 80-250 g per tonne of coal, higher on high-ash coals and older mills.
